Press Pause (Technical Writing)

— The Brief
Introducing Press Pause, an online tool designed for adults who want to support young people in understanding and addressing the sexual behaviours around them. They needed a writer to compile the information collected by 7+ counsellors and transform it into digestible, accessible text to engage with on the website.

— The Product
The website would introduce adults to key topics that young people could come across in their day-to-day (eg- sexualised images). To help them tackle this, they would get access to key statistics, definitions, commentary from professionals, invented scenarios and exercises.

— The Writing Challenge
In order to write loyally about these sensitive topics, I first had to be educated about them. I worked with the client and counsellors to ensure I was using language that was appropriate and technical when translating their raw material. During the writing portion, I had to keep in mind my adult audience, ensuring anybody could read this without the content feeling taboo, risqué or embarrassing. Along the journey, I also had to ensure I was keeping myself safe, and giving myself time to process the (at times difficult) content I was engaging with. It was a challenging, but hugely rewarding project to work on.

— The Result
Press Pause is now live, and being used as a tool in a variety of environments, from schools to council spaces and more.
