PRODUCTION
My happy place? Wrangling cats and projects to completion. Find a few examples of my creative production work below.
The brief was clear: create a campaign promoting New Zealand’s leading design awards. Easy, right? Unfortunately, 2023 was unkind to the creative industry: in the gloom of the recession, awards were feeling superficial and irrelevant. We brought back the simple joy of creation with a stop motion campaign full of absurdity.
The production challenge, in short - 8 stop motion sets and 168 assets to create in 3 months on a limited budget. More importantly - a team to keep motivated throughout.
We all do it - when we ask a mate for a plumber, we ask for someone who's "good". But here's the catch: "good" doesn't always mean licensed. And in New Zealand, that can mean the difference between a blown up house and a positive insurance claim.
The production challenge, in short - 1 day, 1 set, 3 ads - two missions: turn plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying into a viral tagline, while keeping everything technically accurate.
Lawyers are often seen as expensive and unaccessible. There was one way to flip the narrative: show the human behind the bill. That's how the JBM Law Pod was born - a podcast I created, produced and edited so people could access legal advice that was down to earth, without the price tag.
The production challenge, in short - get lawyers to speak technicals without the jargon. That, and avoid breaking Kiwi laws about dispensing legal advice.
Dunedin, city located at the South of New Zealand, has everything the other cities have - minus all their worst traits. And it was about time the country knew about it. For this PR campaign, we blasted honest creative on the biggest billboards we could find. And the tongue in cheek campaign earnt us 3x awards at the AGDAs and Best Awards. Tick!
The production challenge, in short - going viral in the country's biggest cities without much budget for media.
Introducing Press Pause, an online tool designed for adults who want to support young people in understanding and addressing the sexual behaviours around them. The website needed to be engaging and accessible, while also technically accurate.
The production challenge, in short - making sure the team was safe around a sensitive topic. Then, working with professionals in the industry to be informed and technical, but creative about how to bring the tool to life.
When people think of social housing, they think of soulless clustered homes made to fit many. Over two years, we worked with local manufacturers, builders and the council to create Te Ō - a wayfinding system inspired by New Zealand's cultural richness, both in concept and materials used.
The production challenge, in short - navigating many top-level stakeholders with differing priorities. This was a marathon of diplomacy as well as creativity.
